Decoding Chinese Modernization: A Six-Year Journey through 59 Field Studies

Renmin University of China School of Global Leadership Report: On December 30, 2025, all international students in the Class of 2025, majoring in Contemporary China Studies at the Silk Road School of Renmin University of China, embarked on a profound practical learning journey to the Museum of the Communist Party of China(CPC) and the Zhongguancun Exhibition Center. This journey, bridging eras and ideas, gave these global youth a nuanced, two-fold lens through which to view modern China.

In the morning, filled with anticipation to uncover the secrets behind China's development, the students of the Silk Road School stepped into the Museum of the CPC. Amidst precious artifacts and historical scenes, they revisited the magnificent century-long journey. In the afternoon, shifting their gaze from history to the future, they entered the Zhongguancun Exhibition Center, experiencing firsthand the surging momentum of China's technological innovation.
"This history is not only China's but also a vital chapter in the narrative of humanity's pursuit of development and progress," remarked Seth Kallestad from the United States after the visit. "We couldn't help but marvel at the stark contrast between the immense hardships faced by the Red Army during the Long March and the astonishing innovation displayed by China today. It seems to suggest that only under the most intense pressure can the brightest diamond be formed!"
Emilie Blanc from France said, "Throughout the visit, we followed in the footsteps of Communist Party heroes and outstanding figures. What moved me most was the consistent focus on the people, even within the grand historical tapestry filled with heroes. This made me realize that the people are the core of the CPC. They are far from mere bystanders of history; they are fully recognized as the true protagonists of the nation's history and development. The phrase 'staying true to our original aspiration and keeping our mission firmly in mind,' repeated throughout the tour, constantly reminded us that the CPC has always remained faithful to its founding mission: to seek happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation. This original aspiration is not a fixed slogan but a lasting commitment, constantly reaffirmed and put into practice at every stage of history. It is precisely for the people and by relying on the people that the CPC has achieved its greatest accomplishments, making China the strong nation it is today. Drawing strength from its history and development, China today, while adhering to its fundamental principle of placing the people and humanity at the core of development, is also guiding other nations toward a world based on innovation, cooperation, and harmony!"

"This completely overturned my traditional impression of Chinese manufacturing!" exclaimed Chadi Marahi from Morocco after experiencing interactive smart devices. "The Zhongguancun Exhibition Center is a strategic hub gathering thousands of tech enterprises! I saw many vibrant startups, and the efficiency and creativity they demonstrate in solving practical problems in healthcare, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, and even space exploration are astounding! I was fortunate to witness China's innovative achievements firsthand. My understanding of China is constantly being reshaped!"
Though the day's visit was brief, the reflections it sparked among the students are profound. From the weighty history housed in the Museum of the CPC to the surging wave of innovation in Zhongguancun, the international students of the Silk Road School completed an immersive interpretation of the logic behind contemporary China's development. They observed that China's modernization process is built upon deep historical roots and cultural confidence, coupled with a forward-looking vision and technological ambition.
